Cross to Bear

from When Did it Change? by Dawn Barrington

/

about

Cross to Bear is another song that came from my over active imagination. I wrote the melody first and the first few verses were inspired by an image I had in my head of a large oval table with men of power seated around it. They were there because they either had status, financial or political power and they were making decision for those with no power. Then the rest followed spontaneously and sometimes I’m not sure where the words come from but they resonate deeply within me and that’s why I write them.

lyrics

Verse 1
As a matter of fact how well do you act When it’s all about you?
When the cards are all laid, The table’s been paid
Stern faces invade

Verse 2
Cold sweats break out, people starting to shout It’s no longer about you
The Political stance is, don’t take any chances
Cause it could be about you

Pre chorus
Gun fire from all around, knives being thrown to the ground
It’s never a good time to stand your ground
Heads are turning, names are burining
In the minds of those who dare to take their share

Chorus x 3
Of all the pain and all the shame of those with a cross to bear

How did we get into this state, it’s time to open the gate
How did we get into this state, it’s time to open the gate
Of all the pain and all the shame of those with a cross to bear
Of all the pain and all the shame of those with a cross to bear
